War tears lives apart. It leaves people broken, brutalised, grief-stricken, afraid. Around the world, Christian Aid helps people piece their lives back together.

What we do

Anoon and her family, South Sudan
We support those in most urgent need with the essentials: medical care, water, food, shelter, blankets.
When the confusion of war leaves children lost and alone, we work to reunite them with their families.
Long term support
After the fighting stops, we're still there, helping communities walk the long road to recovery: from building new homes where families can feel safe at night, to providing the expert support they need to deal with traumatic experiences.
We strive to promote peaceful, effective alternatives to violence and armed conflict by tackling the structural causes of poverty and conflict. Find out more about our work around the world.
‘We can now live together safely and this brings my children courage and hope.'
Anoon from South Sudan, whose family built a new house with support from Christian Aid after they were made homeless by war.
How you can help
For a growing number of people across the world, the horror of war is a part of daily life.
Right now, fuelled by the devastating violence in both Syria and the South Sudan, war is driving more and more people from their homes.

Christian Aid is a Christian organisation that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.
We provide urgent, practical and effective assistance where need is great, tackling the effects of poverty as well as its root causes.
We are an agency of the churches in Britain and Ireland and we work with anyone who needs help, regardless of faith or nationality.
We work with and through local partners overseas: churches, ecumenical bodies, local non-governmental organisations and movements who have common values and competence in poverty eradication.
We have an integrated approach to poverty eradication – working on humanitarian relief, long-term development, specific advocacy issues and campaigns for change and influence.

The LRA is just one of many armed groups operating in war torn parts of Central Africa. In recent years it has been active in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and South Sudan.
Democratic Republic of Congo
In the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the military regularly clashes with illegal armed groups - including small bands of LRA fighters and FDLR militia ousted from Rwanda after the 1994 genocide. Entire communities are repeatedly forced to flee their land and homes, only to risk sexual violence, rape, harassment, and terrible food shortages.
In North Kivu, our local partner, Communauté Baptiste au Centre de l’Afrique (CBCA), helps people report incidents of sexual violence in person and via an SMS protection system. They also offer psychosocial and legal support for survivors of sexual violence, and improve co-habitation between civilians and the military.
In South Kivu, our partners support people who have been displaced by conflict and also their host families by enabling them to grow their own food. We also fund shelters, and provide household equipment, seeds, tools and food vouchers for use with local traders.
