Christian Aid Ireland

Christian Aid Ireland is an aid agency working to overcome poverty in some of the world’s poorest communities in 50 countries. Regardless of race or religion, we help people to tackle the problems they face and build the life they deserve. At home and overseas we also campaign to change the structures that keep people poor, challenging inequality and injustice.

Our work at home includes supporting the local volunteers who make Christian Aid Ireland tick – particularly in the run-up to the big annual fundraising effort in Christian Aid Week each May. We preach or speak about Christian Aid’s work to groups, in schools and in churches. We recruit and support campaigners, Christian Aid teachers and other volunteers. And we organise events and host visitors from Christian Aid Ireland’s overseas partner organisations.

Supporting churches

Christian Aid Ireland is the official aid and international development agency of seven churches in Ireland. It is also part of ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together), the worldwide ecumenical network for emergency relief.

Here are our supporting churches and church organisations in Ireland. Click on the website links to find out more:

Christian Aid Ireland also works in close partnership with Irish Aid, the division of the Irish government’s Department of Foreign Affairs that supports international efforts to tackle poverty. Our work in Colombia, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola and Afghanistan – places where the consequences of bitter conflict add to the burdens of poverty and inequality – is a particular focus of Irish Aid’s support and involvement.
